facebookOK.. This one covers the gamut! It’s definitely ‘in the news’ we’re talking about major impact on search marketing, optimization and I’m definitely getting up on my soapbox and shouting it from the highest geographical location I can find!

People! and I do mean EVERYONE! Facebook just opened up USERNAMES! “So What!” you say? Well put it this way: Facebook allowing everyone to get their own personalized URL is pretty close (not exactly but close) to ICANN saying we’re deleting all the .com domains and tomorrow you can all start again to register them from scratch!

Yep that chance to get YOUR NAME or your COMPANY NAME is now.. If you are a professional, self employed, personality, celebrity, VIP, business owner or politician you will want to have http://facebook.com/username so everyone can find you that much easier!

Be very careful in the name you choose as you cannot change it! I stayed simple http://www.facebook.com/ron.boyd for my personal FB profile page.

Here’s another kicker… I really hope you’ve set up your FB Page for your business! Cause it too gets it’s OWN Facebook URL! If you don’t get your web designer or social marketer to get one up there for the June 28th deadline!

Oh wait.. you’re here already! just Contact us and I can help you set up your facebook page, I can also help integrate your blog and twitter accounts for you too.. Make Social Marketing easy!

Introducing Add-on Collections for Firefox

Firefox, once again has proven why it’s MY favourite browser.

Don’t get me wrong, I really love Safari, Chrome, Opera and even IE has gotten better by leaps and bounds in the last couple of years. But NONE of the other browsers offer me my add-ons like Mozilla does! I don’t know if I could live without my gestures, copy link text, analysis and validation tools, oh and my fav. clippings..

And now… Introducing Add-on Collections a way to put all your favourite addons into one group, save it and share it! If only to save it for future use, when you need to re-set up your Firefox browser on a new computer or after a format!

the social business conundrum

For quite a while now I’ve been struggling with the whole social business thing; Where is the line?

When I was brought up, educated and shown the ropes of business it was taboo to mix business with pleasure. You address colleagues and clients by Mr. or Mrs or Sir and Ma’am and your friends by name. For those that fit both categories protocol dictated that you address them based on the occasion. it was straightforward, and easy to remember.

Fast forward to today’s business world on the world wide web… and it’s really hard to see where the line is anymore. Social Marketing on the Internet has taken the business world by storm.. it works! I guess when it comes down to it we always knew it would… Social Marketing online is akin to the base of business: word of mouth for the digital world.

Meta Tags

What are meta tags? A meta tag is a snippet of code located between the <head> </head> tags in an HTML document. Defined, "meta" is the shortform of "metainformation".

Meta tags are often used incorrectly and laypeople and designers alike are often uninformed as to their meaning.

Originally meta tags were used to help "make sense" of the growing number of web pages on the Internet in the mid-90s. Then unethical web designers and web masters, began abusing the Keyword Meta Tag to drive traffic to their sites. They would place keywords unrelated to their site in their meta tags causing their website to appear in the search results for unrelated search queries (topics).
