Fireworks vs Photoshop..

Flat out NO CONTEST!

I mean that seriously! Fireworks and photoshop simply cannot be compared. They are two very different pieces of software created with two VERY different purposes in mind…

  1. Photoshop was create for the Graphic Designer, and is an awesome tool for photo editing
  2. Fireworks was created for the Web Designer, and is by and large the greatest tool for creating websites and the graphics they require.

Rewind to last year… Adobe bought out Macromedia.. you could hear the weeping behind the closed doors of every Web Designer ’round the world, the fear has been thick enough to cut with a knife.. (wanna slice?)

Fast Forward to today… Adobe has released it’s new CS3 (Creative Suite 3), and WOOOHOOO!!!! Dreamweaver and Fireworks live to see another year (or so)!!!

For some details and great comments on the new Fireworks CS3 I encourage you to check out this post from Texx Smith in Florida.

Can’t wait to check out the new Web Design Suite actually looks like a great package together!

Do you think business today is less formal as a result of social media?

I’m glad to hear I’m not the only one who feels this way. When I worked at Verizon’s superpages.com, only one of thier 23(?) Web Designers had ever used Fireworks before.

Of course most of them didn’t know HTML either. Just photoshop . . .

. . . I quess that’s why their sites look the way they do

I loved in your article where you pointed out that photoshop doesn’t let you resize via pixels by typing in the numbers.. that is SOOO FRUSTRATING! in web design we live by pixels and percents!

One great thing about fireworks is that those that have used photoshop can make the transition easily as most of the shortcuts and tools are similar or the same.

I haven’t found another graphics program that’s as light and easy to use as fireworks, I can quickly put together a site, select my areas for slice and export just the slices then use my dreamweaver in split mode to create really nicely optimized code and create a good site, quickly and easily.

    Ron Boyd:
There is a secret way to get Photoshop to resize an object by typing:
Click an object, pause for a moment and click again. IF you have design environment set up in a particular fashion, a special window will show up at the top of the screen under the drop down menus.

It would be nice if they put that in the help files whuh? Or better yet just make it show every time you clicked ion an object.
